Britney Spears, 17, is from a small town in Louisiana called Kentwood (pop:1200). Tipped to join
Madonna and Celine Dion, she made her debut by hitting the number 1 spot in both the US and
UK charts.
Britney has been aiming for stardom since her young childhood, by entering events such as dance
pagents and festivals aince the age of only 4.
In '95 she was the 'Jr High Beauty' and was only three years from fame.
Her obsession with performing, according to Britney, has driven her mum (or mom) crazy. She
said "...even when I was in my cot I used to like the radio turned up really loud."
Her first professional gig, when she was only 6, was at Oak Alley Plantation.
She loved to get up and perform infront of anyone, whenever she could. She would even copy the
dance routines of her pop idol, Micheal Jackson.
Britney first took a shot at fame, at the age of 8, by auditioning for a remake of the Mickey
Mouse Club. Told she was too young and without experience, Britney headed, with her family, to
New York, where she attended the Professional Performing Arts School.
At the age of 11, Britney was now experienced and got her place in the Mickey Mouse Club. This
meant another move, as the program was based in Disney World, Florida (although Britney
admits never getting homesick of her home town).
At 14, Britney moved back to Kentwood, deciding she wanted a "normal teenage life".
Nowadays, after placing the small town of Kentwood on the map, Britney refreshes the pop scene
with her adolescent attitude and waits for her worldwide success.
